What are Fitted Hats?
If you guessed that fitted hats can’t change size, you’d be correct. They’re hats that lack a size-adjusting strap in the back. Alternatively, you have snapbacks, which you can change the size of via a strap in the back.
Since there’s really only the one requirement, these hats can be any of a variety of styles. Commonly, they will have a more solid back (as opposed to mesh), but this isn’t always the case: For example, one of our trucker caps is not adjustable, but does have a mesh back.
Fitted Hat Customization Options – Decorations
When you are creating your personalized fitted hat, keep in mind, you’ll have to decide on a logo and decoration method goes along with both the hat style and the fashion in Orange, CA. There are four main options available, two of which are particularly well-suited to fitted hats:
1 Embroidery Logo Application:
Embroidery is a decoration method that involves sewing thread into the material of the hat. It’s great for custom fitted hats for the following reasons:
- The 3D effect you get with embroidery is completely unique.
- Embroidery often provides a classic, professional look that goes well with fitted hats in Orange, CA.
- Embroidery is highly durable, a major benefit if you’ll use this hat as activewear.
2 Patches Logo Application:
Patches create a distinct instance of your logo, which you can then add to hats (amongst other things). When using them for custom fitted hats, here’s what makes them pair well:
- Custom patches give your logo the sturdiest application. These last a while.
- You can pick from a variety of materials, from PVC to leather.
- You get the most control over the design, more than you’ll get with embroidery, screen printing, or DTF/heat transfer.
3 Screen Printing Logo Application
Screen printing – Screen printing directly applies ink to the hat using whatever image you decided as a logo. We generally recommend embroidery and/or patches over screen printing for custom fitted hats; that said, it does have several advantages:
- Despite higher setup fees, the price per unit is fairly low, making it a good fit for bulk orders.
- This method allows more fine detail than embroidery, while typically offering more colors than leather patches.
- Even though it’s not quite as wear-resistant as the first two options, screen printing is still durable if properly cared for.
4 DTF (Heat Transfer) Logo Application
DTF (heat transfer) also is similar to screenprinting with its use of ink, but is different because you first create separate print of the logo, which can be attached to the hat, kind of like a patch. DTF and screen printing are roughly equally good fits for custom fitted hats, but have distinct pros:
- For small orders, this is often the most cost-effective option.
- DTF can do more precise designs that other methods can’t.
- There are some special finishes/colors that can only be done this way.
Custom Fitted Hats Pro-Tip: Make Use of The Hat’s Back
When designing your custom fitted hat, you’re probably first and foremost thinking about the logo. You’ve put a lot of time and effort into getting it just right, and you want people to see it. Because of this nearly all custom hats feature the logo right in the middle of the crown of the hat.
But many fitted hats give you a second option: take advantage of the back. Since many fitted hats feature a solid, filled-in rear, you have more options to advertise your brand and express your personal style. In many cases, people will use the back for a secondary logo, perhaps something event-specific.
For pre-existing logos where you want to create a variant or sub-logo to fill out your custom fitted hat, we recommend working with our logo design specialists. Hat.Co’s team are experts at making designs for Orange, CA, companies and families; we can build something new yet comfortable based on your existing logo.
Fitted Hat Customization Options – Hat Styles
Because fitted hats can be in any of several styles, there isn’t a hard and fast list of which hat styles are “fitted.” But we’ve picked out some examples that we think are good fits for Orange, CA:
- Baseball Caps – Iconic Fitted Hats: Baseball caps were originally so that they would stay on during play, and are the most popular style for fitted hats.
- Our New Era Structured Stretch is a baseball cap that is fitted.
- Trucker Hats – Style and Comfort: Contrary to the norm, if you go with a trucker hat, you can get a fitted hat with a mesh back.
- Most trucker hats are adjustable, but our Flexfit Trucker hat is an exception.
- Flexfit –Between Fitted And Adjustable: Flexfits naturally fit to the wearer’s head via an elastic band.
- It may be debatable whether or not Flexfit is “fitted,” but they’re great hats regardless, like our Port Authority Delta Cap.

Why do People Wear Fitted Custom Hats in Orange, CA?
It’s hard to go wrong with any hat style in Orange, CA, but the fitted ones will always stand out. The smart, premium look and snug fit make them a popular choice anywhere. Fitted hats are also making a comeback for backwards wear.
Fitted hats are also popular in Orange because their tight fit makes them good options for activewear. Because of their more secure fit, people can wear them while running or moving around without risking losing them.
Additionally, as mentioned above, because the majority of fitted hats have solid backs, you often have more options when designing them. When you’re focused on branding with hats, the additional space can make a big difference.
Orange Custom Fitted Hats FAQs
Not quite ready to start customizing your fitted hat? We’ve got some of the most common questions Orange, CA, brings up about custom fitted hats:
What looks better, fitted or snapback?
Deciding between a fitted hat and a snapback mostly depends on the occasion and purpose of the hat. Each has its benefits and drawbacks, but in most cases, a fitted hat will will look more professional while a snapback will be bolder.
Do fitted hats loosen or tighten as they age?
If your fitted hat is brand new and you’re just breaking it in, it will loosen a bit. However, as caps get older, they frequently tighten if they experience wear without being properly cared for.
What hat styles are fashionable now?
Snapbacks are in a modern mainstream fashion trend, but fitted hats are frequent choices for Orange, CA, residents who want to stand out from the crowd.
We’re also seeing more people interested in hats with mesh on the sides/back, most notably trucker hats. And for decoration, embroidery and patches are the current top styles.
Do fitted hats look good backwards?
They do! Their tighter fit has been a key factor in their resurgence with backwards wear. Even though you can wear any hat backwards, other hat styles’ generally looser fit increases their risk of falling off. Meanwhile, fitted caps hold tight to your head regardless of the direction it’s facing.
Should a fitted hat feel a little tight?
Typically, no (at least when you’re first wearing it). Because most hats often shrink a bit as they age, we typically recommend starting out with a hat that’s just a bit loose, and then break it in to make its shape and fit work well for you.
How should I customize my fitted hat?
We have two tips to take advantage of your fitted hat when customizing:
- Take advantage of the more solid back. Ancillary designs and patterns are great on the back since you have more space and structure.
- Add some texture – embroidery and patches are both great options, and will make your logo pop off the hat in a premium way.
